COVID-19 Bulletin 2nd Wave

COVID-19 second wave brings new symptoms, see if you have them

The country is struggling with the second wave of corona which is getting worse day by day. The problems with the second wave are piling up as the symptoms of COVID-19 infections are strange and not common to the previous one. Sore throat is one of the most common symptoms.

The second wave of COVID-19 in India has drastic effects on the country and has overwhelmed the health sector. The situation is getting worse as the COVID-19 infection is going undetected in the RT-PCR test.

India has been reporting a record daily increase of coronavirus infections over every 24 hours, with a surge in demands for oxygen supplies and hospital beds making it even worse for the Central and State governments.

The double mutant of the coronavirus which can’t be detected by a COVID-19 test has a series of strange symptoms. Some of these are listed below:

  1. Sore throat: If you have a prickly, itchy throat or if you feel some swelling, it can be indicators of a sore throat, which is one of the most common symptoms of COVID-19 infection. This symptom has been seen in over 52% of cases globally.
  2. Fatigue: UK experts have revealed that a lot of COVID-19 patients are reporting weakness as one of the initial signs of infection. Many individuals have reported signs of fatigue and weakness before being tested positive for the virus.
  3. Body ache: Doctors have revealed that many individuals who have been tested positive for COVID-19 have been experiencing excruciating body, joint, and muscle pain. The main reason for muscle and body aches is myalgia, which is a result of the coronavirus attacking important muscle fibres and tissue linings in your body.
  4. Fever and chills: If you are experiencing extreme chills and unusual cold, it could be a sign that you have been infected with the virus. Fever and chills are common symptoms in the case of the mutant virus.
  5. Nausea and vomiting: Nausea and vomiting are now being looked at as signs of COVID-19 infection in its early stages.
  6. Dizziness: Many people have reported that they have been experiencing neurological symptoms of the COVID-19 infection like dizziness, fatigue, malaise, and nausea.
  7. No saliva production: Your body fails to produce saliva, which experts believe protects your mouth from bad bacteria. Additionally, people with these symptoms might find it difficult to chew their food or talk properly.
  8. Red, runny eyes: Multiple studies have indicated that patients with corona virus may have a case of conjunctivitis. Conjunctivitis or viral pink eye can cause your eyes to tear out, be wet, turn swollen and often itchy. Pink eye, very predominantly visible as a sign of trouble happens when the virus tends to infect an important tissue in the eye, known as the conjunctiva. Many doctors also feel that for a lot of patients (and even asymptomatic ones), pink eye or redness in the eyes, which can irritate vision may be “the single most important” symptom of corona virus. Hence, timely attention must be paid to your eyes.

Viral conjunctivitis, such as the one seen with COVID-19 also tends to affect a single eye, unlike normal conjunctivitis. Wheezing, constant eye irritation, sensitivity to light can also be expected.

  9. Diarrhea and loose stools: A bout with COVID-19 could also show up in the form of diarrhea, loose stools and faucal inconsistency, as per many case studies. It may not happen to everybody but doctors now warn that a lot of people undergo these symptoms before any other typical symptom, such as fever or body pain.

There is also evidence to suggest that faucal transmission can also be a route for the spread of the virus, especially in shared quarters. Therefore, if a person does exhibit diarrhea and suspects it to be COVID-19, isolation and using separate facilities is advised to minimize contagion risk.

  10. Headache: Headache, body pain and myalgia could be some of the most difficult signs of the infection. Since a lot of people may not record a high temperature, signs such as these could show up before and easily go misdiagnosed.

People who suffer from neurological problems caused by COVID-19 also report persisting headaches and pain in the temples as a persisting sign.

A COVID-19 headache also feels different from usual stifling headaches, according to survivors. Read here to identify some of the signs and symptoms which may help you make a correct diagnosis.

One of the faculties of genetic epidemiology at King’s College London, Professor Tim Spector, took to his Twitter handle and said, “One in five people with Covid still present with less common symptoms that don’t get on the official PHE list – such as skin rashes. Seeing increasing numbers of Covid tongues and strange mouth ulcers. If you have a strange symptom or even just headache and fatigue stay at home!”

So if you experience any of the symptoms listed above then don’t panic just get yourself checked and stay at home.
